Free Make & Take THIS SATURDAY

Join us this Saturday from 10-3 for a free make & take. We are working with a brand new paper from Alexandra Renke - a new line to The Paper Pickle. Her designs are incredible. I love how this sheet can be chopped up to create a pile of cards to have on hand.  She shoots. She scores!  Stop in and make one of these pretty cards!  We'd love to see you.

Miss JULY is ready to GIVE back

Last year, I had the privilege of being a part of a beautiful idea.  My friend and fellow downtown merchant, Vickie of Lady Blackbird Boutique and Tattoos by Vickie, asked if I would like to be a model in a vintage inspired calendar she was pulling together as a fundraiser for the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre.  Of course I said yes....what an honour.  It was an incredible cause and such a beautiful idea.  Vickie is a woman who constantly amazes me with her talents, ideas and generosity.  I know this calendar was a huge undertaking but Vickie gave of herself for a cause she is passionate about.  That impacted me and inspired me.

For a few hours on a Sunday, I was pampered.  My hair was done by Nathalie Miller of Iron Willow and my make up done by Candace McEachran.  All clothing and accessories were from Lady Blackbird Boutique. These women gave of their time and talent to make me feel like a queen.

The photo shoot took place in the Presidential suite at The Retro Suites Hotel, only THE most beautiful boutique hotel.  Aimee Raspburg took all these shots.  Aimee is a true talent.  Check out her facebook page, Aimee Lynn Photography.  Again, these businesses gave of their time so women and children will have a safe place to go.  I made note.  I wanted to do more.

So you guessed it....I am Miss July!  As I flipped the calendar on Saturday, I was reminded of an idea I had and wanted to see come to life ever since I became a part of this fundraiser.  I met with Angela of the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre a couple of years ago and she told me how journals are always in need at the shelter.  Each woman and each child is given a journal where they can write their thoughts and feelings.  I have kept a diary/journal since I was in grade 6 and I know how powerful they can be.  It is where I have written my most intimate thoughts....things I have never shared with anyone.  It is my kind of therapy and I know many share this same idea.

Journal Donations Welcomed ALL Month Long
This is where you can help.......Now I know you guys are paper lovers like me.  I'm sure you have a few journals in your stash that you have accumulated over the years.  I will confess that I pick up journals where ever I go.  And I also know that many of these journals may never get touched.....and isn't that a shame?  These beautiful journals would be greatly accepted and welcomed at the Centre.

All month long we will be collecting journals of all shapes, sizes and colours.  Bring them.  Show that we as a paper crafting community care and want to share our love of paper and pretty things with others.  And hey, don't be afraid to craft your own and donate YOUR work of art.  Your art could bring a smile to someone in need of just that....a smile.  What a beautiful thought.  That leads me to my next idea.....
Journal Crafting Night - Wednesday July 26
Sign up for a spiral journal making night!  We will make TWO identical journals - one for you to take home and one to be donated to The Chatham-Kent Women's Centre. Note:  I am not quite done my design but believe me you will not be disappointed....a lot of love and care is going into this design. These chipboard albums will measure 6x8" and will be decorated with designer papers and embellishments.  Photos to be shared soon!
Date:  Wednesday, July 26th
Time:  6:30-8:30pm
Cost:  $20+hst
All supplies included!

I am proud to put these ideas forward and I hope you will consider joining me in making a difference.

Daddy Daughter Dance + Make & Takes

Oh.  It's on.  That's right.  This Saturday is the 3rd Saturday of the month and that means a FREE make & take for you!  This Saturday's card is all about the dads and lots and lots of EMOJI LOVE 😍😜(the on trend line from Simple Stories...we've got lots of new items from that line including 12x12 sheets, kits, washi tape and more!).  Stop in anytime between 10am-2:30pm for a fun card for dad or anyone you have ♥ eyes for.  All ages welcome.

Daddy Daughter Dance - This Friday
Ok.  This is only THE cutest event ever.  Trevor and Julia have been going for years now....and I have been wanted to get a sneak peak at this exclusive event.  Well, I've finally got my in (yesssss!!!) The Paper Pickle will be running a few make and take tables.  The girls can make a special card for their dad and write a sweet message inside.  I believe tickets are still available but act quickly.  Tickets can be purchased at CKtickets.com  or call 519-354-8338.  The event should be a sell out.  All proceeds go to The Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village.

Third Friday - Downtown Chatham
This Friday the downtown will be hopping with music and entertainment on the streets, late night shopping and more.  The Historic BIA started this event last year and it was great.  There was a brief break due to the poor weather in winter and spring but now it is back.  Strolls the streets from 5-8pm.  We have participated in all past events but however because we will need a crew at The Daddy Daughter Dance, we will have to pass this Friday.  Look for being open late in upcoming months.  Sorry to disappoint.

Hope you are enjoying the weather.  Summer is here!

Retrofest 2017 - An EVENT Like No Other

44 Fourth Street - A HUB of creativity
Retrofest 2017.  It was perfect.  The weather.  The people.  The cars.  The energy.  It was all there.
Lemonade Theme you say?  How will this truck do?
When it comes to anything my sister's and I do, we have to have a theme.  Gifts are always curated with a theme in mind.  When we do scrapbooking or wedding shows, there is always a theme.  Retrofest had to have a COOL theme.  Somehow Jen and I decided the theme for Retrofest 2017 had to be "lemonade".  So you could imaging my glee when Julia and I cruised up to the store first thing in the morning and I saw THE sweetest vintage canary yellow truck parked in front of OUR store!  Trust me.  This was not planned.  It was like the party planning Gods were smiling down on 44 Fourth Street last Saturday!
Lemonade + Vintage = Sweet FUN
Big details like the lemonade truck and small details like these paper lanterns in various shades of yellow make a theme come together.  Oh and did you notice our vintage girl in the window?  Of course our bike had to make an appearance.  Oh how I have missed her!

A successful event is ALL about the details.
One's party must have food and drink to match the theme.  I found these adorable sparkling lemonades by 7Up at the grocery store.  The retro style packaging got me.  Man, do I love when plans come together!
Float-style cupcakes
Leave it to my sister and baker extraordinaire to create THE most perfect sweet delights to go with our theme.
Homebaked Kitchen - This is how you nail lemonade themed sweet treats
Beautiful sugar cookies that were beyond words and "float style" lemonade cupcakes graced her counter in three lovely flavours:  raspberry, blueberry and peach.  They were a wow.  From the candied topper to the adorable little straw.  Jen's talent and creativity amaze me daily.

The cotton candy treat was well deserved
Anyone who hosts an event knows that much of the success is due to the people filling their duties during the event.  They must fill their roles with grace, professionalism and of course FUN!  This is why we brought in only THE sweetest girl around to help with the make and take.  I think she had over 70 people stop in to make a sweet card.  Have a look.....She is all smiles because she found cotton candy at Vickie's shop next door!

I must also give a shout out to my nephews who did an incredible job sampling and selling pickles.  They are business men in the making (just like their dad!).  I wish I had a photo to share.

Sisters
Well that's a wrap.  Another Retrofest is in the books and I couldn't be more proud.  The Paper Pickle has brought so much joy to my life.  I am so happy to have such incredible support from family AND customers like you.  All I can say is thank you.  This is what keeps me going.  When life gives you lemons, I say make lemonade. ♥
