Zonta - What a Rush!

Christmas Tradition by Kim

Last Saturday was the Zonta Christmas Card Extravaganza and it was incredible (as always)!  I was amazed to hear that The Paper Pickle has participated in ALL 17 card making events put on by this wonderful club/charity.  We are the only business to boast of this and I will tell you there is a reason we have been participating each and EVERY time......it is because it is FABULOUS. The organizers have always stepped up to provide the participants with a top notch event.  Everything from great cards lessons at each of the 8 tables, a nice healthy lunch by Maple City Bakery, fun card contests (you should see the entries!), and home baked goodies (the scones are a must try).

The Product
This is the card that I designed.  I was quite pleased with the outcome.  I like my cards to be elegant and I like my cards to include a product or technique that some may never have tried.  This year I told the ladies that it was my plan to wow them with my "use of dies and glitter ritz".  I will tell you there were quite a few dies including the Tim Holtz Mixed Media 2 die (Sizzix), Jewels 1 border dies (Elizabeth Crafts) and Adler Star (Memory Box).

Sizzix - Mixed Media 2 Die used for the background

Elizabeth Crafts - Jewels 1 - used as an accent at the bottom

Memory Box - Adler Star Trio - used with glitter ritz as an embellishment
And boy, was the Glitter Ritz flying!  I used glitter ritz (which is a microfine glitter) on the Adler Stars (and layered the two largest to create a beautiful poinsettia to match my Magenta Stamp) and also as a border at the bottom portion of my card.

The Process
Someone asked me how I come up with my designs.  Well I will admit that it is luck.....kind of.  Actually I like to zone in on a few products I would like to use.  This year I HAD to use the Magenta Santa and Little Girl stamp.  It has been an all time favourite of mine and really that is where the design began.  I then went back to look at the cards I had designed in the past.  I had worked on gold cards and pink cards.  We had a brown rustic card last year.  I had never worked with a stark navy and clean white before so this led to the next choice.  Then one of my customers who is "in the know", asked me to bring in the Tim Holtz Mixed Media 2 die and once I saw it, again I KNEW I had to work with it.  The rest all fell into place.  What do you think?
Penny Black - Yes, Virginia
Now how cool is this?  I was looking through my stash and came across THE most perfect sentiment for the inside of my design.  This is an oldie but a goodie.  Penny Black's "Yes, Virginia" was the icing on the cake for me.  My card was complete.  And can you believe it.....no twine!

On Order
I will tell you that the majority of the items I used on my card are now out of stock but all items have been re ordered.  If you are interested in any of these items, we would be happy to take down your name and set it aside once it is here.  Just shoot me an email (thepaperpickle@gmail.com) or call the store (519.351.5220).

I hope you enjoyed my design.  And next time you hear about the Zonta card making day....sign up!  I promise you will have a great day.  Looking forward to lucky #18.
